The National Air Tour will arrive and depart from Shreveport Downtown Airport which was dedicated during the visit of the 1931 National Air Tour.

| They say 18,000 people began cheering the arriving ships of the 1931 National Air Tour at they began arriving in Shreveport about1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 14. The 1931 Tour coincided with the dedication ceremonies of the new Municipal Airport, which began at11:15 that morning and, amid much celebration, lasted until 6:00 p.m. that evening.
The National Air Tour ships were part of a huge program that day featuring more than 75 aircraft which had flown in to be a part of the dedication ceremonies including 49 military ships that had come from Galveston, Atlanta, Kelly Field and Maxwell Field Montgomery.
The famous racing pilot, and late military hero, Jimmy Doolittle was on hand serving as Referee and Official Starter for the Air Tour in Shreveport. Commenting on event, Doolittle said, |
